Timothy Stone, M.D. joined American Behavioral as Medical Director in 2014. He has extensive experience in community-based services, as well as inpatient services for individuals with mental illnesses, substance use disorders and intellectual disabilities. He is dedicated to expanding the use of evidence-based practices and offers skill and expertise with American Behavioral client companies, members, and providers. In addition to his work with American Behavioral, Dr. Stone also serves as Medical Director at Chilton Shelby Mental Health, maintains an active psychiatric practice, and is a faculty member in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Stone’s service prior to joining American Behavioral includes Medical Director for the State of Alabama Department of Mental Health, staff psychiatrist for Bradford Health Services, chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Carraway Methodist Hospital, and Medical Director of the Dual Disorders Psychiatric and Substance Abuse/Dependency Unit at Brookwood Medical Center. Dr. Stone holds a bachelor’s in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Alabama. He earned a medical degree from UAB, as well as serving his internship at UAB Hospital. Dr. Stone is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
