In 1990, company founder H.E. Logue, M.D., recognized the trend toward providing cost effective quality behavioral health care as the nation struggled to address soaring health care costs and quality of care. Dr. Logue tapped the expertise of hospital administrator, Allen S. Blackwell, to help him formulate the business model and share in his vision of creating a world-class behavioral health care company. They soon realized the services they provided were scalable and initially offered them throughout Alabama and eventually nationwide.
Since the first contracts in 1990, American Behavioral has enjoyed many successful milestones, including full accreditation in Health Utilization Management Services in 2002 by the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC). Once accreditation was achieved, American Behavioral recruited a prominent group of individuals as members of its board of directors who would help guide the company. In 2004, American Behavioral was invited to join other behavioral health organizations in the National Behavioral Consortium (NBC).
From its humble beginnings in 1990 until now, American Behavioral has grown to manage approximately 1 million covered lives while catering to the unique needs of large corporations in diverse fields such as health care, manufacturing, banking, retail, and high-tech industries as well as governmental and municipal entities. Over two decades after its inception, American Behavioral continues to provide quality and personal, cost effective, behavioral health care services to employers and their employees. Today, President and CEO, Maureen J. Gleason, MS, LPC, brings more than 25 years of behavioral health experience in clinical practice and executive leadership. Gleason continues the American Behavioral tradition of providing excellent service to clients.
